Do my expansions vessels require a statutory examination?

Expansion and pressure vessels that are equal to or greater than 250 bar litres will require a written scheme of examination and regular inspection by a competent person.

How do I work out if my expansion vessel is 250 bar litres?

Multiply the volume of the vessel by the gas pre-charge pressure. Example a 100 litre vessel with pre-charge of 3.0 bar = 100 x 3 = 300 bar litres this vessel will require a written scheme of examination and statutory inspection. Also note you may need to consider the operating pressure, example if the gas pre charge pressure of a 100 litre vessel is 2.0 bar but the operating pressure is 3.0 bar this vessel should be considered for inclusion in a written scheme of examination.
